China's central budget will allocate 9.5 billion yuan, about 1.25 billion US dollars in support of poor students in the coming academic year.
China's Education Ministry announced on Monday that the new allocation will be five times larger than last year¡¯s, with more students benefiting from the fund.
The Chinese government has established an efficient multi-faceted aid system for helping poor students to complete their studies, including the offering of scholarships, preferential loans, subsidies and work opportunities.
Officials from Chinese Finance Ministry introduced that the central budget, and local budgets, will arrange this year for 15.4 billion yuan, or 2 billion US dollars to be set aside in support of poor students.
In the future, the fund will reach 50 billion yuan, or 6.57 billion US dollars, in aid of about 20 million poor students. |
