A rare sprinkling of snow fell from the sky, covering fields and mountains in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwestern China's Gansu province.
Xinhuanet reported Tuesday that the rare weather occurred in the hot summer due to the lasting moderate and heavy rains in the region, causing the temperature there to fall below zero degrees Celsius.
The Lanzhou Central Weather Service said that the moderate and heavy rains started from Monday's morning, lasting until early on Tuesday, and the snow followed the rains at around 5:00 am on Tuesday.
The heavy snow piled up to 3 centimeters. Pedestrians wore winter clothes as they left home.
The weather service center has estimated that the rare snow will possibly cause damage to wheat and other local crops. |
