An editorial in China's People's Daily newspaper says that the country is moving forward to actively protect the rights of disabled persons, rather than "simply giving them handouts".
The article appeared as the country marks the 17th National Day of the Disabled Person.
It said the government has established over 2,000 legal aid centres and will introduce a law protecting the rights of disabled persons at the end of this year or early next year.
It also said major cities across the country are upgrading themselves into "non-obstacle" cities to create a friendlier environment for disabled people.
Meanwhile, Deng Pufang, president of the China Disabled Persons Federation, called for the protection of disabled people's rights to receive education and employment. |
