More than 200 delegates from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan met during the first Cross-Straits Youth Forum in Beijing on Friday.
The forum is co-hosted by the Chinese Communist Youth League and Kuomintang Youth League.
While meeting the Taiwan delegation before the forum, Chen Yunlin, Director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, said cross-strait relations are closely tied to the fate of the young people on both sides.
He hopes young people will become a steady force that protects and promotes the peaceful development in cross-strait relations.
Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang Party, Lin Yishi, heads the Taiwan delegation.
He said the future of the relationship will be determined by the actions of today's youth. He hoped young people from the mainland and Taiwan would be able to have profound exchanges at the forum.
"If we have a good direction this year and we have better consensus, I think we can definitely play a key role of making changes in Cross-Straits relations."
