With Monday marking the fifth anniversary of China's WTO entry, China's Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai says China has faithfully implemented its commitments made for WTO entry and has had an excellent performance over the past five years.
Bo Xilai says the progress is impressive in terms increasing foreign trade, improving economic patterns and reforming trade-related laws and regulations. Chinese people have gained tangible benefits through the implementation of its WTO commitments.
As the five-year of transitional period passes, Bo Xilai says China will continue following the WTO rules and further open its market.
"The passing of the five-year 'transitional period' does not mean that China's market will open with no restrictions and control. The opening will remain ordered and regulated. It will also fully follow WTO regulations ."
Bo says China has gained a lot of experiences while honoring its WTO commitment.
"The industry of China, even the industry of the whole world, is better developed in an open and challenging environment. To fear challenges and close the door will only lead to no progress. Challenges will stimulate competitiveness."
Bo says as China is closely linked with the world's trade environment, it will actively take part in forming global trade regulations.
Currently, China is promoting the re-starting of the stranded Doha Round of trade talks, which mainly focuses on slashing agriculture subsidies and tariffs to poor countries. In the talks, China will also work hard for the acknowledgment of its full market economy status as a developing country.
