The International Olympic Committee's Coordination Commission says Thursday the country is still on track for the 2008 Games.
The Commission’s Chairman just wrapped up its seventh visit to Beijing.
Hein Verbruggen says everything seems to be going smoothly.
“I’m happy to be able to state that it’s continuing at the right pace, I say ‘right’ to indicate that work is progressing exactly as it should be and is really on track. So I see a sense of excitement when you see this materializing.” But the biggest test is yet to come.
Verbruggen says the next phase will be critical for Beijing organizers as the global community gradually shifts its focus on the upcoming Games.
Early next year organizers will start a trial run of the Olympics to iron out all the kinks for the different venues.
