China and Russia will hold the closing ceremony for the Year of Russia in China during the 11th meeting of the Chinese premier and his Russian counterpart early next month in Beijing.

Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui said during Wednesday’s press conference that several activities, including an Exhibition on Russia and a China-Russia investment promotion conference will be held during the closing ceremony. The official recalled that over 200 activities have been held during the Year of Russia, with initial results achieved in various fields and mutual trust greatly enhanced between the two partners.
“Promoted with activities during the Year of Russia, frequent contacts are being carried out on different levels, especially the number of high level meetings, they are at a record high. During less than one year, President Hu Jintao and President Putin have met four times. The countries’ prime ministers and top legislators have also held meetings and talks. The face-to-face talks between leaders of the two nations have enhanced mutual trust to a new level.”
A series of cultural activities, such as the Russian cultural festival, Moscow Week in Beijing and St. Petersburg Week in Shanghai, have entertained Chinese people with Russia’s rich culture.
And Li Hui said these activities have played an "important role" in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, substantially expanding bilateral cooperation and enhancing bilateral strategic and cooperative partnership.
Russian Ambassador to China Sergey Razov echoed Li Hui’s remarks, particularly commending the “Tour of Friendship” undertaken by the Chinese and Russian media. “I highly praise China’s proposal to organize the ‘Tour of Friendship’ between the two nations, and I appreciated the contributions made by reporters and journalists from the two nations.”
Preparations for the Year of China in Russia, set for 2007, are currently underway. Li Hui said great importance has been attached to the upcoming event by the two sides.
“Russian leaders have stressed that they’ll make every effort to guarantee smooth preparation for the Year of China, including customs clearance and personal safety. We believe that as long as the two sides cooperate closely, with joint efforts the Year of China will be as successful as the Year of Russia.”
