Chinese ambassador to Kenya Zhang Ming says China attaches great importance to its diplomatic relationship with African countries and the Chinese government has and will stick to this principle despite political changes in the world.
Zhang Ming made the comment during an interview in Nairobi, as the third ministerial-level meeting of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum prepares to be held at the beginning of November in Beijing.
"During the past five decades, many changes have taken place in the world, but the base for cooperation between China and Africa has not changed. China and Africa remain in friendly partnership with each other. And both sides hope to promote their traditional friendship into the new era."
Zhang Ming also refutes the view published in some western media that China is somehow colonizing Africa, as he stresses that the relationship between China and Africa boasts a long history.
"Half a century ago, as China achieved political and economic independence and many African countries were struggling for their own independence, Chinese and African people came together and united with each other. Such a relationship is based on similar sufferings in history and a parallel realization of the tasks necessary for independence, the maintenance of sovereignty and the pursuit of economic development. It features mutual respect and benefits, as well as equality."
Zhang Ming adds that China will continue its sincere efforts to help African countries and make contributions to the economic and social development of Africa.
