Honorary Chairman of the Kuomintang Party, Lien Chan, is heading a 150-member delegation to attend the Cross-straits Agricultural Cooperation Forum in South China's Boao city.
Lien Chan said the event would promote agricultural cooperation and mutual development across the Taiwan straits.
In regards to the Cross-Straits Economic and Trade Forum held in Beijing in April, Lien Chan said the beneficial policies announced at the forum made it possible for more Taiwan fruit and aquatic products to be sold on the mainland.
Kuomintang think-tank commissioner Chen Wuxiong echoed Lien Chan's idea, calling for further cooperation across the straits.
"The mainland is a big market. Taiwan fruits have been favored on the mainland since the zero-tariff policy was implemented last year. Turnover of the fruit market has increased remarkably. It's our common wish that more fruits can fall under the zero-tariff preferential policy."
The two-day forum will open on Tuesday. In the wake of the forum, an exhibition will be held in Xiamen to showcase the achievements of cross-straits agricultural cooperation.
