Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the construction site of 2008 Olympic venues in northern Beijing on Sunday, the 57th National Day of the People's Republic of China.

He gave warm holiday greetings to the construction workers and encouraged them to be persistent at work to prepare for the best Olympic Games in history.

At the site of the new National Stadium "Bird's Nest," Hu Jintao highly praised the good work and encouraged the workers to always be innovative.

"Hosting the Olympic Games has been a dream of everyone in this country for years. The construction of its venues therefore is something that catches eyes both nationwide and worldwide. I'm glad we've already made a lot of achievements so far. Hopefully we'll keep up the good work all the way along."

Moving to the site of National Indoor Stadium, the Chinese president walked in the steps of the construction workers' daily lives. Everything from food to accommodation to earnings concerned him.

"I am proud of you guys because you are undertaking a glamorous project. You should feel proud of yourself too, as you are taking on a responsibility for people from across the country. I'm sure all the work will be done perfectly."

Later, President Hu visited the site of National Swimming Centre "Water Cube," which was sponsored by more than 50 thousand overseas Chinese, as well as the National Convention Centre.

He stressed it's now a crucial moment for China to build up the key concepts of "green Olympics, high-tech Olympics and people's Olympics", and to make sure the country delivers on all the promises it has made to the International Olympic Committee.
