The 11th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) opened in Macao Saturday. It is Macao's largest international integrated exposition offering opportunities for trade promotion, product display, commercial partnering and sales promotion. Our Macao correspondent Liang Tao has the details.

Reporter:

More than 140 economic and trade delegations from 47 countries and regions come to Macao for participating MIF this year, including around 170 representatives from seven Portuguese-speaking countries.

Business matching and procurement negotiation are arranged to provide a broad range of cooperation opportunities, thus further enhance the features and functions of this international and professional exhibition.

Talking about the significance of the four-day event, President of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute Lee Peng Hong says,

"MIF is currently Macao's biggest economic and trade convention and exhibition event. It is also the first international exhibition in Macao, which was recognized as an approved event of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry since last year."

Lee notes that over the years, it has played an active role in attracting overseas investment, expanding imports and exports and facilitating trade and business co-operation.

He adds that it has also provided a good channel for Macao and overseas exhibitors and business people to promote their products and services, enhance their corporate image and build client relationships.

Moreover, Lee hopes that this year's event will bring more business opportunities to Macao. He says,

"Through trade negotiation, product exhibition, business matching, specialized presentation and information exchange, MIF provides an ideal platform for attracting investment from and creating business opportunities for local and overseas industrial and commercial sectors."

Products displayed at the exhibition cover garments, accessories, handbags, shoes, pharmaceutical products, food, beverage, electrical appliances, printing matters and ceramic products.

A number of forums and conferences will be held during the MIF, including the forum of the development of the private enterprises in China.
