Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and US Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson have announced the establishment of a China-US economic strategic dialogue.
Wu Yi says the dialogue will be of great importance to Sino-US relations.
“Secretary of Treasury Paulson and I announced the establishment of the China-US economic strategic dialogue. It is a dialogue between the world’s largest developing country and the largest developed country. We believe such a dialogue mechanism will help Sino-US economic development.”
Paulson also speaks highly of the dialogue.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the cabinet, Madam Wu and Chinese leadership to make the dialogue effective and to use it to strengthen the long-term economic relationship between our two countries.”
Meanwhile Paulson has also reaffirmed his stance against trade protectionism favored by some US Politicians.
“I don’t agree with their tactics. You’ll never have me favoring Protectionist legislation. I’ll try to talk them out of it.”
Wu Yi and Paulson will co-chair the dialogue as special representatives of Chinese President Hu Jintao and US President George W. Bush.
