Legislators from China and Russia get together at a roundtable meeting on Monday, aiming to deepen the mechanism for information exchange to further boost bilateral economic and political ties.
Our reporter Xiaoyu has the details.
Reporter: During the "Year of Russia" now going on in China, political ties between the 2 neighbors have been promoted along with cultural and economic activities.
At Monday's roundtable meeting, held in Harbin in northern China, top legislators from the two sides discussed ways to diminish the frictions caused by the differences in their legal systems.
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Wu Bangguo, stressed the significance of protecting the interests of investors by making specific laws.
"As trade cooperation between China and Russia is increasing rapidly, the two sides should sign an agreement to protect investors as soon as possible to safeguard their legal interests. We should further strengthen law making and enforcement and make more efforts to solve key problems in bilateral trade to regulate the market and protect investors' interests."
As the bilateral trade volume has been hiking annually, to 29 billion US dollars last year, the Chinese and Russian legislatures have been urged to make more pragmatic efforts to deepen their information exchange and help promote trade ties.
Russia's top legislator Sergei Mironov highly praised the roundtable meeting.
"It's the first time that officials from the two legislatures and experts in related fields hold so deep and overall discussions on how to legally safeguard Sino-Russian cooperation. Every specific topic on the meeting's agenda is important and urgent. And I believe the outcome of this meeting will contribute greatly to the two nations' mutual understanding and strategic partnership."
It's agreed by the two counterparts that, as China and Russia share much in common in their social developments, their experiences in making laws related to many aspects of society, including employment, education and environmental protection, can be exchanged and learned from each other.
Wu Bangguo said China would like to draw on Russia's experience in making laws related to safeguarding national security and regulating non-governmental organizations and the internet.
The two legislatures have held regular meetings since last year, with more tangible progress and practical efforts being witnessed gradually.
