Government officials and experts from 19 developing countries have wrapped up their week-long training on emergency management in Beijing.
This is the first time the Chinese government has cooperated with the International Civil Defense Organization, or ICDO, to hold this type of training course.
ICDO officials said they hope the other developing countries can learn from China’s considerable experience in disaster prevention and mitigation.
Once again, CRI's Dan Dan has the story.
Reporter: Twenty-two representatives from member countries of the ICDO, including Armenia, Pakistan and Cyprus, attended the training course.
During the week-long program, Chinese experts introduced the participants to the country's emergency management system, including its experience in disaster alarming systems, emergency aid, and post-disaster reconstruction.
The head facilitator of the training course, Zheng Yuanchang, said the information given by the presenters was very practical.
"China has encountered many similar issues to those of other developing countries, like environmental problems and disaster risks. Many countries have suffered great losses from these disasters."
Indeed, China is one of the world’s countries that are most seriously affected by natural disasters. Each year, the Chinese government devotes a great deal of manpower and material resources to tackle these problems. During this process, much experiential knowledge has been accumulated.
Valerie Loh, an official with the ICDO, says China's experience is quite worthwhile as a reference for other developing countries.
"China has so many big disasters. So we present it to ICDO member countries to know about it and to learn from it. The course will be very useful for participants. When they go back to their countries, they'll certainly have a new view towards disaster management."
Many participants have commented highly on the training program. Hamlet Matevosyan, from the Armenian State Academy of Crisis Management, is one satisfied participant:
"The training course benefits us greatly. We've learned and understood more about China's disaster mitigation system and the protection given to residents of disaster-hit areas. The training course also provided a platform for representatives from different countries to exchange ideas and experience in disaster mitigation."
According to the training course head facilitator, Zheng Yuanchang, it is the sincere wish of all involved that the emergency management capabilities of the participating developing countries can be effectively improved through the training.
Moreover, Zheng noted that China is always willing to carry out more cooperation and exchanges in this field with these countries.
