With two years to go to the 2008 Olympic Games, CRI has launched a brand new news channel, AM 900 or “CRI Olympic Radio"!
"CRI Olympic Radio” will broadcast 24 hours a day, in various languages, including Chinese, English, Russian, French, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Korean and German.
President of China Radio International, Wang Gengnian, made a short speech to commemorate the event.
“With the approach of the 2008 Olympic Games, more and more international sports events will be held in Beijing. Many foreign tourists also need a platform which can provide them useful information with no language barriers. The opening of "CRI Olympic Radio” will meet the growing demand for information on Beijing, China and the Olympics.”
Wang says the launching of the new channel has received much support from Beijing’s Organizing Committee for the Games, the BOCOG. Liu Jingmin is the executive vice chairman of the committee.
“Starting from today, CRI Olympic Radio will begin to play an even more active role in publicizing the latest information about the Olympics. The channel will also help to display a favorable image of our country.”
Earlier, chairman of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, expressed his congratulations to the achievement made by China to better present the Olympic Games.
“I would like to say I’m very thankful to our Chinese friends for what they are doing for sport, especially preparing Beijing for the Olympics. There are less than 1,000 days left before the Games. I would urge them to continue to work hard and diligently for the success of the Games.”
The new "CRI Olympic Radio,” like the upcoming Olympic Games, will service as a bridge connecting China to the world.
