Tuesday (August 1st) marks the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese armed forces, the Chinese People's Liberation Army, or PLA.
On this special occasion, Chinese defense minister Cao Gangchuan says that the PLA will always be a steady force dedicated to world peace and stability, to promoting common development, as well as to building a harmonious world.
"China will unswervingly observe an independent foreign policy of peace and steadily walk a path towards peaceful development. China has consistently pursued a national defense policy that is defensive in nature. Based on the principals of mutual respect and mutual benefits, we'd like to enhance communication and deepen cooperation with armies of all other countries."
Cao Gangchuan notes that to safeguard the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to realize the unification of the nation are core benefits to the nation and its people.
Cao says the PLA will maintain its policies in terms of the Taiwan question.
"We'll continue to present our greatest sincerity and efforts to promote the peaceful development of cross-straits relations, and work for the prospect of peaceful reunification. Meanwhile, we firmly implement our responsibility in safeguarding our nation's sovereignty, territorial integrity and security. We will never allow any 'Taiwan Independence' or Secessionist power to separate Taiwan from China."
