Los Angeles Launches Clean-Tech Website
    2008-11-26 09:15:50     Xinhua
The city of Los Angeles launched a Web site on Tuesday to promote environmentally-friendly policies and provide companies with information on properties, university research and events related to green technology.

The site is intended to attract companies to Los Angeles in order to create jobs and develop clean technologies, according to the mayor's office.

"Cleantech is the biggest opportunity of the 21st century, and I am committed to making Los Angeles a global cleantech capital," said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

"Our long-term future depends on our ability to capitalize on the growing opportunities of the new green economy and this site will bring together our partners under one virtual roof."

CleanTechLosAngeles.org was created by the mayor's office, Community Redevelopment Agency, Caltech, Department of Water and Power, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Port of Los Angeles, University of California in Los Angeles and University of Southern California.

The move came after the mayor announced a proposal on Monday to meet 10 percent of the city's energy needs with solar power by the year 2020.

In September, Villaraigosa announced plans to create a "clean technology hub" east of the downtown area in Los Angeles.
