| U.S. IT giant Microsoft has been brought to a trial in Beijing after an undergraduate sued it of privacy infringement in the process of collecting personal information.
The Beijing News reports that the plaintiff Lu, from Peking University, requires Microsoft to unveil the information they collected from computers installed with a pirated-version-check application, and make a public apology for the misconduct.
The Beijing First Intermediate People's Court has accepted the case.
Lu said he installed the software on his laptop before learning that it would exist for ever, and automatically forward his information used for system registration to Microsoft.
He complained that the company forced people to sign an agreement with them for the installation, but offered no way for individual users to uninstall the bug.
The most important point is that the software poses a serious threat to the safety of the computer and personal privacy, Lu noted.
The student also asks for an uninstall tool plus compensation of 1350 yuan.
Microsoft say they have been informed by the court, but have so far refused to comment further. |
