    2008-12-14 15:02:14     Xinhua

The Olympic champion United States edged China 1-0 in a women's soccer international friendly Saturday in Carson, California of the United States.

Tina Ellertson, who missed the Beijing Olympics this summer because of giving birth, kicked home in the 61st minute. Amy Rodriguez sent a crossing pass to Ellertson, and the latter converted the pass from 6 yards inside the right post.

China missed their best chance to tie the game when Han Duan's close header was deflected by the U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo in the 66th minute.

Kristine Lilly, the world's all-time leader in caps at 340, returned to the U.S. team with the title of "Mom" after a 14-month hiatus. She entered in the 55th minute to extend her record to 341 games.

The two teams will meet again Wednesday in Detroit.
