    2008-12-05 23:13:49     Xinhua

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Donald Tsang unveiled the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) Countdown Clock on Friday.

The Cantonese version of the Game's official theme song was also performed publicly for the first time during the ceremony.

"Hong Kong government will fully support the organizing works for the Games," said Tsang. "We are confident that Hong Kong will host a successful games next year."

The design of the 4.5-meter-tall countdown clock is based on the Games Mascot "Dony" and the Game's theme song "You are the Legend" was performed publicly by more than 30 local singers.

"The theme song showcases the passion and enthusiasm with which the athletes will compete in the Games," said Timothy Fok, chairman of the 5th EAG Planning Committee. "I believe it will also help to build the momentum for the Games and heighten the Game's atmosphere in the city."

"I sincerely call on every Hong Kong resident to be a good host and to give our guests from around the world a warm welcome next year," he added.

The 5th East Asian Games, slated to open in Hong Kong on Dec. 5, 2009, will be the first major international sports Games hosted by Hong Kong.
