Spanish golf legend Severiano Ballesteros will undergo a third operation to overcome a brain tumor, it was announced on Thursday.
Fifty-one-year-old Ballesteros, who won the British Open on three occasions and the U.S. Masters twice, was taken to the La Paz Hospital in Madrid on October 7 after suffering a dizzy spell. There he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent first operation on October 14.
That operation lasted 12 hours and he later needed a second intervention to stabilize his condition and remove a small part of his skull, after his brain swelled.
The La Paz Hospital issued a further statement Thursday, saying Ballesteros would need another operation on Friday and that it would be a long and difficult procedure.
"The patient Severiano Ballesteros remains stable within his serious condition and will undergo a new intervention tomorrow ( Friday)," said the statement.
"He has a cerebral haematoma. The inflamed zone is situated within a very deep part of the brain and will need an operation of great complexity," added the hospital. |
