Real Madrid Forward Higuain Warns about Atletico Threat
    2008-10-15 21:46:26     Xinhua
Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain warned his team-mates on Wednesday that they will have to dig deep if they want to get a good result from Saturday's city derby against Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid travel across town after having drawn 2-2 against Espanyol in the weekend before the break for international football. Atletico meanwhile suffered a humiliating 1-6 defeat to Barcelona in the CampNou stadium.

Higuain told sports paper Diario AS that he believed the defeat would make Atletico dangerous opponents.

"I am certain Atletico will go into the game feeling very hurt and angry at the defeat against Barcelona and they will want to improve their image against us," said Higuain.

"What happened to them in Barcelona was very surprising, but that kind of result happens from time to time in football. We can't allow ourselves to get confident because of that defeat, because Atletico are a much better team than they showed themselves to be in the Camp Nou."

"It was a strange game in which nothing worked out for one side and everything went well for the other," he added.

The young forward has had a good start to the season with Real Madrid, earning a regular first team place and forming part of an attack that has been scoring goals at a consistent rate. For that reason, he believes the best thing is not to focus on this weekend's rivals.

"We should not worry about how Atletico play against us. What we have to do is concentrate on our own football. They know that things will start to get complicated for them if they lose. But we drew at home to Espanyol and now we have to get those points back away from home."

"I am certain it is going to be a very exciting game," said Higuain.
