    2008-10-15 09:03:52     Xinhua

The German national football team are to face Wales in a World Cup 2010 qualifier in Moenchengladbach on Wednesday.

Germany are on top of the table in their group after a 2-1 victory against Russia on Saturday in Dortmund. The squad of head coach Joachim Loew collected seven points out of three games. Second are Wales with six points out of three games.

German captain Michael Ballack is a doubt for the match due to a calf injury he picked up in the clash with Russia.

The 32-year-old Chelsea midfielder was unable to take part in training on Monday and instead received intensive medical treatment, local media reported.

It will be the 16th match between Germany and Wales. While the European runner-up won seven, there have been only two wins for Wales in the history.

Last time both teams met was during the qualification for Euro 2008. Miroslav Klose scored twice to seal a 2-0 victory in Cardiff. The second leg ended with a goalless draw.
