Camacho Named as New Osasuna Coach
    2008-10-14 21:00:55     Xinhua

Spanish Primera Liga side Osasuna confirmed on Tuesday that former Spain coach Jose Antonio Camacho will be their new coach.

Camacho replaced Jose Antonio Ziganda, who was sacked by the club on Monday after slightly more than two seasons in charge of the Pamplona-based club.

Although Osasuna lie just above the relegation zone, they have just four points from six games and have yet to win a match in the current campaign.

The 53-year-old Camacho has signed a contract that takes him to the end of June 2009 and will be accompanied in his new job by long- time assistant Pepe Carcelen.

As a player, Camacho was known as an attacking left back for Real Madrid. However, neither of his two brief spells as Real Madrid coach were a success. He left the club in the summer of 1998 before the season had kicked off and in his second brief period at the Santiago Bernabeu, he resigned after just three games of the 2004-5 campaign.

He made his name as Spain coach, leading them to the quarter finals of the 2002 World Cup and also with Primera Liga outfit Espanyol. However, he has not coached in Spain since leaving Real Madrid.
