    2008-09-30 08:30:30     Xinhua

The coach of the Argentine soccer team Gimnasia de La Plata Uruguayan Guillermo Sanguinetti resigned on Monday after the defeat at a classic match against Estudiantes and for the poor results during the Opening tournament.

Sanguinetti, 42, coached the team for nine months and during his first tournament with them, Closing tournament, Gimnasia finished 17th with 17 points since it had four triumphs, five ties and 10 defeats, it made 19 goals and received 26.

At the current tournament, the team is 12th, with nine points, but its situation is very difficult because it is on fall zone to the second category.

Sanguinetti began its coaching career with the same team where he retired as a player. He was the player with most matches in the history of the team as he had played 383 local matches and 18 international.

Two weeks ago, after Gimnasia lost 1-3 against Tigre, Sanguinetti submitted his resignation but the members of the club convinced him of continuing with the job.

The defeat on Sunday against La Plata was the decisive event for Sanguinetti to resign.
