Chinese newbie He Zi made a splash here on Friday, edging double world champion Blythe Hartley to win the women's one-meter springboard at her first World Championships.
Canadian Hartley, winner of this event at the 2001 and 2005 World Championships, led the field of six finalists after three rounds.
But Chinese rookie He Zi kept her sharp form since the preliminary on Thursday, and took over Hartley's reign to notch upthe gold with a total score of 316.65 points.
Rather than feeling excited for her first ever world title, the teenager tried to remind herself of what she hadn't done well.
"My third dive wasn't good and I'm not satisfied by it," said He." So I have to go on training in order to improve myself and at the next competition, I will do better."
Hartley had to settle for the second place with 311.20 points and Russian veteran Yuliya Pakhalina finished third with 304.60 points.
The 16-year-old He burst onto the international stage with two silver medals in the springboard events at the Doha Asian Games last December.
At her second international appearance, He had to shoulder the pressures of compete solely in the final, as her teammate Li Ting failed to qualify for the final.
