Liu Wei Denies Wang Zhizhi's Effort of 41 Points

Point guard Liu Wei made the last shot of the game to deny Wang Zhizhi's 41-point effort for Shanghai Sharks' 101-100 thrilling win over Bayi Rockets in a CBA match.

Liu, who shot just 3-out-of-16 in the field before the winning basket, took 4.6 seconds for the break-through layup, leaving four seconds to the away team when Zhang Zhongguang's 3-point attempt wide off.

Wang also grabbed 10 rebounds and power forward Mo Ke added 20 points but were not enough for the military team collecting the third victory of the new season.

This was the second time for Liu winning the game by the last shot as he made the basket with six seconds left to lead the Sharks to a 111-110 win over the Dongguan New Century last Sunday.

Defending champion Guangdong Hongyuan kept unbeaten by beating Fujian SBS 97-83 for its fourth consecutive victory.

Pivot Yi Jianlian led the game with 26 points and 11 rebounds when his national teammates Zhu Fangyu contributing 18 points and nine rebounds, Wang Shipeng 15 points and Chen Jianhua 10 points.

Fujian's Chris Porter was one steals shy of triple-doubles as he had 19 points, 15 rebounds and nine steals.

Yunnan Honghe tasted its fourth loss in row as it fell down on road to the Dongguan New Century by 114-100.

Antonio Miles, who was selected on No. 1 last season, scored 27 points while Qiu Biao adding 23 for the home team.

CBA new comer Zhejiang Guangsha was still looking forward to its first win as it lost 98-78 to Zhejiang Cyclones, while Beijing Ducks handled down the second home win by defeating Xinjiang Guanghui 99-81.

In Sunday's other matches, Jiangsu Dragons stopped Liaoning Hunters' winning streak with a 118-107 home win, while Shannxi Hans kept Shanxi Zhongyu winless with a 116-105 victory. In the late match, Shandong Flaming Bulls defeated the Jilin Northeast Tigers 102-91.
