Women's Softball Worlds Close in Beijing

The 11th world softball championship, the first Olympic test event in Beijing, closed in the capital city on Tuesday evening.

After ten days of competition, defending champion the United States reclaimed the tournament title by beating Japan 3-0 in the grand final.

The two nations join Australia and Canada to qualify for the softball event in the 2008 Olympic Games.

China, finishing fourth in the 15-team tournament, qualify automatically as host country of the Games.
