David Kellett, vice president of International Sailing Federation (ISAF), told a press conference on Monday that China stands a great chance of winning several medals in the 2008 Olympic Regatta.
"I think the Chinese sailing team will have an excellent chance of winning several medals in the 2008 Olympic Games. The development of sailing in China is amazing. The Chinese Sailing Association is to be complimented for their excellent work, and it should encourage Chinese sailors to travel internationally in competitions that would improve their performance.
"I think China has a very good chance of winning four or five medals in the Qingdao International Regatta. It is a very good result for China."
On the effect of the regatta as a test event, Kellett said: "We are far advanced in this test event. The venue and the facilities are more advanced than any previous test event that we had for any Olympic Games. I think this test event has gone so well that we could run the Olympic Games next year. I am sure by 2008 we'll have a very good operation to run the Games."
