Kenyan sprinters proved their power on the track as they swept two gold medals within one hour on Thursday evening.

Caroline Chepkurui Tuigong won the first gold medal for the African country in the women's 3,000 meters steeplechase.

She won the race with a new championships record of nine minutes and 40.95 seconds.

Caroline's compatriot, Remmy Limo Ndiwa, added one more gold for Kenya in the men's 1500
meters.

China harvested one gold medal and one silver in the men's high jump and women's triple jump respectively.

National champion Huang Haiqiang cheered the home crowd as he cleared a height of 2.32 meters to win the men's title, which was also his personal best result.

The 18-year-old boy was intoxicated with his success

"It's out of my expectation. I feel very excited. It's like a dream. I had never thought that I can reach the height of over 2.29 meters."

Chinese Sha Li, winner of last year's World Youth Championships, took home the silver medal in the women's triple jump.
Sha Li attributed her result to the support of home fans.

"I'm not in a good firm today. It's difficult for me to win the medal. The support of home fans gave me strength to fight for my goal."

In other events on Thursday, Jamaica's Kaliese Spencer was crowned champion in the women's 400 meter hurdles. And Renny Quow from Trinidad and Tobago and Croatia's Danijela Grgic won the men's and women's 400 meters respectively.

After three days of competition, Kenya takes a temperately leading position on the medal tally with a total of two golds, two silvers and a bronze, trailed hosts China with two golds, one silver and two bronzes.
