Sydney Olympic champion Kong Linghui set the stage for Ningbo when he defeated national team mate and world number one player Wang Liqin in the first singles rubber.

World number five Vladimir Samsonov from Belarus then stepped onto the court to play Bayi's Li Jing in the second singles rubber and extend Ningbo's lead to 2-0.

Veteran Kong Linghui reappeared with teammate Chen Jian to fight for the doubles match. Ningbo lost the first set but the experienced Kong Linghui held his opponents at bay, winning the next three sets and the match.

In the women's competition, Shandong extended their winning streak to six games after beating Liaoning at home. They are now in second place on the tally, just two points away from leader Beijing.
