Summer beer festivals dot the Chinese landscape, from way up north in Harbin through Qingdao and all the way to Chongqing in the southwest. And one you don't want to miss is in coastal Dalian. Locals and visitors enjoy active days, and wild beer filled summer nights.

With 40% green areas, Dalian is quite the pleasant city to stroll around. And for first time visitors, walking is the best way to feel the city beat. Neighborhoods are connected by squares and parks, always brimming with life. Dalian is known for fashion, soccer, and, of course, the ocean. But when summer comes along, it's time for beer.

Millions joined the annual party on Asia's largest public square Xinghai square, beside Bohai Bay. Just as Benjamin Franklin said, "beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy". And it's hard to just stand by and watch. Wherever you go, there's a cup of suds coming your way.

Drink as much as you like, and don't worry about growing a beer belly. There's plenty of opportunities to move your body, and burn off those calories.

In China, most regions have a single major brand of beer. Like Beijing, where 80% of the market is held by Yanjing Brewing Company. But it's different in Dalian. Without its own brand controlling things, Dalian makes a best stage for an international beer fest. Over 200 brands are on tap, from China and abroad.

Beer may not be the beverage of choice for these teenagers. But the bottles provide a way to practice their roller skating. The light, energetic feel of Dalian makes it a perfect place to rejuvenate. Not long after you arrive, you start to feel very alive.

But the modern city also has its historical side, like on Russian Street. These buildings have stood more than a hundred years. In the 19th century, Dalian was just a small fishing village. But its strategic location caught the eyes of Russia and Japan.

This market devotes itself to fans of China's neighbor to the north, especially the die hard vodka lovers. All goods are imported directly from Russia.

Traditionally, northern Chinese don't care much for nightlife. But in Dalian, there are plenty of options on a summer night.

Pubs of varying themes are scattered throughout the city. And they're not only for restless youth. Anyone young at heart will feel welcome.
