Former Head of Panda Mobile Arrested

The former general manager of Nanjing-based Panda Mobile Ma Zhiping was arrested.

The former general manager of Nanjing-based Panda Mobile Ma Zhiping was arrested on July 28 for falsification of registered capital, Shanghai Securities News reported Thursday.

Nanjing Municipal Public Security Bureau said they have got some evidence concerning Ma's misdeeds, which involve Panda Mobile, Nanjing Zongheng Communications Co. Ltd and Jiangsu Tianchuang Co. Ltd, also under control of Ma.

The police have founded a special team to investigate this complicated case and are still gathering more proofs.

Ma, who is well-known in China's business circle for winning the highest-priced commercial bid of the CCTV in 2004 for Panda Mobile.

The Panda Mobile was founded as a subsidiary of Panda Electronics Group Co. Ltd in 2002. The Panda Electronics Group held 51 percent of the shares and Ma held 49 percent.

Ma was detained by the police early this year for embezzlement and Panda Electronics Group removed Panda Mobile from its annual report of 2004 in April.
