China, Hong Kong, Japan and Aussie Market Roundup

China's stock market closed up on Wednesday

The Shanghai composite index gained 12 points at 1,165, while the Shenzhen composite index closed up slightly at 3,063.

Hong Kong share Share prices closed sharply higher led by China Mobile after the company reported stronger-than-expected results for the first half to June.

The Hang Seng Index closed up 299 points at 15,346.

Tokyo's Nikkei index closed higher across the board on growing hopes that the Japanese economy is finally emerging from a prolonged lull.

The Nikkei ended the day at 12,098, up 198 points.

Australian shares prices closed up at a record high with investors retreating from blue chip banking and resource stocks into the wider market.

The broader all ordinaries index ended up 10 points at a record 4,385, and surpassed the previous day's record closing high of 4,375.
