Li Shantong is the Director General of the Department of Development Strategy & Regional Economy. This State Council department, part of the Development Research Center is a consultative body for the Chinese government on major policy issues.

As an expert on economics, she also explains her concerns about developments in Central China, a central issue during this year's CPPCC session.
