Since 2000, China Development Research Foundation (CDRF) has successively organized the annual meeting of the China Development Forum, which is sponsored by the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC).
The Forum invites prestigious domestic/overseas entrepreneurs, experts and scholars, representatives from international organizations and Chinese government officials to discuss significant issues related to China's reform and development. As such, the Forum aims at establishing a new mechanism and channel for dialogue and communication among entrepreneurs, scholars and government officials from home and abroad, which in turn will help the mutual-understanding between China and the world. To suffice access to the floor, the Forum is of small scale but high profile. Of the approximately 80 official participants, 30 are overseas and 50 are Chinese. Vice premier presents every Forum and makes speeches at the opening ceremony. After the Forum, premier meets the attendees and exchanges views with them. Each session begins with a 15-minute keynote speech by a Chinese minister, followed by a 10-minute comment from an overseas professor and free discussion thereafter. The Forum invites internationally prestigious politicians and ecumenicists to deliver lectures at lunch and dinner times.
Premier Wen Jiabao said after 2004 Forum: "This is the Fifth China Development Forum held so far and out of that I was present at three forums and met the participants during another two forums. It can be said that I have participated in all the five forums." Highly regarded by all sides, the Forum has exerted extensive impact on the international business community. With its operation financed mainly by patronage, China Development Forum does not charge its official representatives registration fees. Over the past four years, numerous enterprises and organizations have generously patronized the Forum.
