Hot in Summer Cinemas
2005-6-30 18:31:42      CRIENGLISH.com
The summer holidays look set to ignite some fierce competition at the box office. In this edition of Movie Boulevard, I'd like to introduce you to four hot films that will be showing in cinemas in Beijing this summer.

Taiwan pop star Jay Chow's maiden film "Initial D" has reached seven million yuan in box office takings on its opening day across China, making it the highest grossing first day film in China this year.

This looks set to be the biggest smash this summer.

The movie title "Initial D" is a term well known to car racing fans, which means, "Master car racer".

The 12 million US dollar film is based on the Japanese comic book of same name, which tells the story of fierce competitions between groups of young racers.

Besides Jay Chow, it has an all-star line-up, including Edison Chen, Shawn Yue and Jordan Chan and Japanese actress Ann Suzuki.

Most of the comments from the audience were positive and film critics weren' harsh in Jay's first foray into acting do, but the film's plot has been criticised for lacking depth.

The playwright,Siu Fai Mak, described the film as simple.

When asked about the difference between acting and singing, Jay said, after six albums, acting gives him more inspiration than singing.

Even if you're not a fan of Jay Chow, you still might be interested in the car racing in this film.
