  • The Promise Flies to Cannes
    Chinese director Chen Kaige and his crew flies to France today with his high profile film "The Promise" for Cannes Film Festival that opens on May 11th.An eleven-minute film trailer of the film will make its globe debut at the event.

  • Three Chinese Films Jostling For Palme d'Or
    Three Chinese films are among twenty-one films for in contention for the top prize, the Palme d'Or, at the 58th Cannes Film Festival, which opens today in France. Wang Xiaoshuai, one of the leading lights of China's young directors, brings a tragic love story "Shanghai Dreams" to Cannes. Taiwan's Hou Hsiao-Hsien will unveil the film, "Three Times", about lovers who meet in three separate lifetimes, and Hong Kong's Johnnie To will make his competition debut with "Election", a thriller starring Nick Cheung and Cantonese heart-throb Tony Leung.

  • "Red Dust" to be Made into TV Series
    Hong Kong's veteran director Yim Ho (Ϻ), who directed the classic film Red Dust(쳾) 15 years ago, decided to convert the movie into a 30-part TV series. South Korean actress Lee Young-ae (Ӣ) and Chinese actor Chen Daoming have been invited to play the leading rolesand a rather bold investment of HK$30 million will be put into the making of the TV series.

  • Tom Cruise's Mission to China
    Hollywood lady-killer Tom Cruise will shoot Mission Impossible 3 in China. The superstar will drive a motorcycle loaded with guns on the streets of Beijing and Shanghai.

  • Joint Folk Music Troupe Stage Beijing
    Folk symphony concert "Ode to Peace", a joint production between Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland Folk Music troupes will open at the Great Hall of the People tonight. It is the first work to be jointly performed by professional troupes from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and boasts an impressive 200 performers.

  • TV Documentary on Japanese Fortress
    Northeast China's Harbin Television station is working on a 30-episode serial documentary about the "Oriental Machino," a string of military outposts built in China by the Japanese during World War II. Xian Mingzhe, the documentary's director, says the project will be completed by August 15 to mark the 60th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascism War and China's Anti-Japanese War.
