Bollywood's latest sex symbol, Mallika Sherawat, said she will promote her first international film starring leading man Jackie Chan at the Cannes film festival next week.
It's a big moment in my life. I'm excited. It's a big movie and he's a big star, Sherawat said of The Myth and her costar.
Sherawat, 23, plays an Indian princess with whom Chan's character falls in love. The movie opens next Wednesday at the Cannes festival, which runs until May 22nd. Chan has described the movie -- shot in China and India -- as an Indiana Jones type of adventure that includes a fantasy element. He plays a Qin dynasty general and an archaeologist. I did the stunts on my own, said Sherawat, who has acted in six movies since her 2003 debut.
The bikinis and micro-minis she sports in her films has earned Sherawat the sex symbol tag. Her debut picture Khwahish (Desire) hit the headlines with a record 17 kissing scenes. It's tiresome for me to put on an act. I'm not a fake, she said. When asked by reporters if she would accept roles in foreign films with sexual content, she replied, I haven't had a problem doing kissing and intimate scenes here, so why should I abroad?
Bollywood, the world's most prolific movie industry, churns out hundreds of features a year with Indian actors and filmmakers increasingly exploring opportunities overseas. Indian actress Nandita Das is on the nine-member Cannes jury panel this year.
