Chinese Grammy Awards Unveiled

The 5th Pepsi Musica Chart Opens...The 5th Chinese Film Media Awards Announced...Emmy Awards to Come to China...Is Jay Chow's Song Patriotic?..."The World" Eyes Singing Circle.
  • The 5th Pepsi Musica Chart, known as the Chinese Grammies, were announced on Sunday night at the Olympic Center in Beijing. Taiwan pop king, Jay Chow, was the big winner taking home five awards, including Best Male Singer, Best Album, Most Popular Male Singer and one of the Top Ten Golden Melodies in Taiwan and Hong Kong regions.

  • Hong Kong star Alex Fong was awarded Best Actor and Taiwan singer and actress Rene Liu crowned Best Actress at the fifth Chinese Film Media Awards opened last night in southern China's Guangzhou city. Chinese fifth generation director Tian Zhuang-zhuang won the Best Director for his film 'Delamu'£¬which also won Best Picture at the annual award. Andy Lau, the male lead in Feng Xiao-gang's mega-hit 'A World without Thieves' won the title of 'The Ambassador of Chinese Film'.

  • International TV Academy President & CEO, Bruce Paisner, visited Beijing last weekend, with the announcement that the annual International Emmys will be held in China next year.

  • Taiwan pop singer Jay Chow's single "Snail" is being promoted as a patriotic song and recommended to Shanghai's middle school students. Also chosen as a patriotic song is Hong Kong singer Andy Lau's song "Chinese". The Shanghai Education Commission claims the two pop songs are encouraging but also have simple melodies. But not everyone agrees with the choice.

  • With rising Chinese director Jia Zhangke's latest film "The World" collecting festival awards in Italy, Spain and France, the film's soundtrack is also being applauded. The film's lead female character, Zhao Tao, announced she would formally launch a music career after the success of her debut single "The Night in Ulan Bator", which also appears on the film's soundtrack.
