June 5th 2005 Yambulakhang Monastery - on the Leg of a Doe Some say that if you have never been to Yambulakhang Monastery, you can not say that you have been to Shannan prefecture of Tibet. Yambulakhang in Tibetan means a palace on the leg of a doe. It is perched dramatically on a pinnacle above the valley. And the mountain where the palace situates looks like a doe. |
June 6th 2005 Tombs of Ancient Tibetan Kings In Qiongjie county of Shannan prefecture, there are 21 famous tombs of ancient Tibetan kings. It is the biggest tomb group of ancient Tibetan kings that still exist today. I see a local Tibetan brings his little grandson to the temple. Even his 6-month-old little son kowtows before the statue of the Songtsen Gampo king with the help of his grandfather... |

June 9th 2005 The Valley of Garlic It is said that in the past Tibetan people didn't eat garlic. While nowadays they plant, sell and eat it. Moreover, their income is quite good. In the valley of Yarlung, land used to grow highland barley is now planted with garlic. With cuiriosity, we go to visit a garlic plantation base in Neidong county of Shannan prefecture today. |
