Versailles Treasures to Exhibit in Beijing

An exhibition of treasures from the Palace of Versailles in France is to open in Beijing on May 1st.

Titled "Louis XIV, the Sun King: Exhibition of Versailles Treasures", the exhibition will display 84 items, including marble sculptures, tapestries, paintings, tableware and furniture.

All of the articles on display are over 300 years old and from the era of King Louis XIV, with a value of around 27.4 million US dollars.

An oil portrait of Louis XIV, estimated to be worth 1.6 million US dollars, is one of the most valuable works on display.

Along with the French treasures, 16 items preserved by the Imperial Palace Museum will also on show to reveal cultural exchanges between China and France during the Sun King's reign.

The exhibit will last from May 1st to July 31st in the Forbidden City's Meridian Gate (Wu Men) building.
