Shima (Stone Horse) Pass
About 20 km down from the Fuyuan Bridge, it is so named because of a galloping stone horse on the valley wall. Here, peaks are as high as 4,800m, Cutting a sharp valley in between. People believe that, if a warrior guards at the pass, nobody else is able to make through it.The best location to view Pass is at the Sight Viewing Kiosk on the hillside, where the stone horse seems as vivid as true-to-life: its head stretching across the water surface for drinking and is ready to fly away above gentle breezes. Such a natural sculpture of superlative craftsmanship amazes many visitors.
Bijia (Brush-Holder) Mountain
Traveling in the valleys, one suddenly discovers a giant "brush-holder" in a distance. It is made of innumerable small "brush-holdersĦħ which turn out to be innumerable tall and straight pine and cypress trees. The beautiful landscapes over the mountain seem to be painted by an immortal hand. Covered with century-old rattans and mosses, a stone bridge of nature's work flies across the cliffs where one finds himself deep in his imagination. The bridge looks like an old man who has witnessed all changes of life and who paints the mountain in red and green. According to scientists, this bridge was worked out by winds, rains, and water washing, and is still in use though millions of years have passed by.
Long' an Ancient Trail
In ancient times, Danyunxia had an official post route connecting Pingwu and Songpan, which is called the "Long' an Ancient Trail." Tea produced in Pingwu was transported to Tibetan-inhabited areas like Songpan and Ma'erkang, and as far as to Hongyuan Prairie the horses of which were shipped in return to Han inhabited areas. It used to be a busy route of traffic, where merchants of the caravan often felt scared when passing by peculiar rocks and roaring waterfalls. Today, tourists riding on tour buses may see inscriptions on the precipitous cliffs and can experience a bit of busy traffic of a bygone era.
Bailing (White Dragon) Valley
Rushing through the lush forests, the Fujiang River, bumping on craggy rocks, abruptly falls into a drop dozens of meters deep. It looks like a white dragon hovering down from Heaven and makes up the most magnificent waterfall in Danyunxia. Hiking from the log trail to the Sight-Viewing Kiosk at the bottom of the Valley, one finds the kiosk built against the cliff, but is happy to enjoy the grand sight of waterfall within his reach. Here, water vapors roll up a strong air current that seems to engulf the viewers altogether into the bottom, where roaring water noises compel you to revere the force of Nature. A gentle and lovely fountain wells up and floats down as if it were a white chain leading to Heaven. The powerful waterfall and gentle fountain make such a sharp contrast that they seem to resemble a couple in deep loves staying together year in and year out. (Huanglong.com) Previous
