China's State Council has approved the giant panda habitat in Southwest China's Sichuan province as the country's only applicant for UNESCO's Word Heritage List in 2006.

The application was officially delivered to the World Heritage Center and is scheduled to be put to vote by experts at the World Heritage Congress next year.

The giant panda habitat in the Qionglai Mountain will be the first to apply for the World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.

There are four natural reserves and six scenic spots in the application area, where about 300 wild giant pandas live.
