Soccer: Real Wrap World Tour with 3-0 Win
2005-7-30 16:29:58    CRIENGLISH.com
Real Madrid finished their patchy pre-season world tour on a high note with a 3-0 victory over Thailand's under-23s.

Zinedine Zidane opened the scoring after seven minutes, converting the penalty when England striker Michael Owen was brought down by Sure Sukka.

Brazilian star Ronaldo beat two defenders before tapping home with his right foot on 21 minutes before substitute Roben De La Red nodded home from a Roberto Soldado chip in the final minutes.

The Spanish giants were roared on by an enthusiastic 55,000 crowd at the Rajamangala stadium including Thailand's football-mad Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his cabinet.

But Real, who have endured some poor form and controversial moments in Asia, cancelled a scheduled press conference and headed to the airport.

After two wins in the United States, Real scraped through 3-2 against Beijing Hyundai where local fans were incensed at the omission of Beckham, who picked up a hamstring injury against Los Angeles Galaxy.

They were then humbled 3-0 in driving rain by J-League strugglers Tokyo Verdy, and drew fire from the Japanese press when Beckham accused a Verdy player of spitting at him.

However, the nine-time European champions returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Jubilo Iwata on Wednesday.

The match in Bangkok raised 14,400 dollars for tsunami survivors after Thai sponsors pledged 4,800 dollars per goal scored by the visitors.

Top stars Owen, Beckham, Zidane and Raul Gonzalez were all substituted at half-time with the score at 2-0.
