Iraq's Transport Ministry terminated a contract with a private British firm providing security services to Baghdad International Airport, a local daily reported on Wednesday.
"The Iraqi government ended its contract signed with the company and demanded all its activities be halted," transport minister Asharq al-Awsat was quoted as saying by Iraqi newspaper Salam al-Maleki.
Maleki said his ministry decided to depend on the Iraqi security members who are being intensively trained for providing security to the facility.
The London-based Global Strategies Group has been in charge of guarding the airport and screening passengers and bags since mid-2004.
It also operates in the fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad, which houses the Iraqi government offices and the US embassy.
On Sept. 9, the firm said it suspended security operations at passenger terminal in Baghdad International Airport in an effort to recover six months of fees due from Iraq's transport ministry.
The airport reopened after one-day closure over the dispute.
