US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan discussed reforms in the international body as well as the current situation in Iraq.
During the Tuesday meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York, Annan emphasized the necessity of UN members reaching a basket of agreements on reforms.
Annan also showed his concerns on a bill that US congress threatened to deduct the UN membership dues.
Rice stressed that the contentious issue of U.N. Security Council enlargement should not take precedence over other U.S. priorities -- management reform, a revamping of the main human rights body, a new peace-building commission, and a democracy fund.
On the Iraqi issue, Annan and Rice agreed it is necessary to meet Sunni Muslims, and stressed the UN and US should further enhance mutual cooperation and negotiation on Iraq issues.
