Related Event: 60th Anniversary of World War II Victory
More than 20,000 participated in the "March of the Living", a three-kilometer walk from the Auschwitz camp to Birkenau.
Addressing the mourning ceremony, Poland Prime Minister Marek Belka said the march is to remember the history and promote understanding and respect between different peoples.
Since 1988 the "March of the Living" has taken Jews to see the places of the World War II genocide.
The Auschwitz-Birkenau complex was the biggest camp built by German Nazis in Poland and the centerpiece of dictator Adolf Hitler's genocide policy to wipe out the European Jewry.
