UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has met supporters of rival plans to expand the enlarged Security Council, but failed to reach any agreement on how to enlarge it to make it more representative.

The ambassadors from Germany, Brazil, Japan and India said they are only willing to wait a few weeks until they call on a vote for their resolution to expand the security council from 15 members to 25.

They held dialogues with their counterparts from Pakistan, Italy, South Korea and several other countries, dubbed as the "Uniting for Consensus" movement.

Pakistani Ambassador Munir Akram said the "Uniting for Consensus" movement supports the agreement for continuing consultations and dialogue. He said that while the consultations are underway, neither side would make a move.

Annan urged the two sides to continue their dialogue and called on them to focus their efforts on those issues where a consensus is easy.

The two camps held their first dialogue in the presence of General Assembly President Jean Ping on May 9th, but the meeting did not achieve any progress.
