Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has been elected honorary chairman of the Our Ukraine People's Union party.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has been elected honorary chairman of the Our Ukraine People's Union party, the largest political party in the country.

Yushchenko's candidacy was supported by about 6,400 delegates gathered for the new party's constituent congress, which took place in Kiev.

Yushchenko said his party would push forward comprehensive and candid dialogues in Ukraine.

On the same day, the party Ukraine's Regions led by ex-prime minister Viktor Yanukovich said it has decided to join the opposition camp.
